I spoke to Felix and he got me so excited about this place called Memory Lane Heritage Village, here in Nova Scotia. Being such a beautiful day I mentioned it to Fred who decided we would head out to see it. After about 2 1/2 hours on the Harley we were there, Well Felix it was well worth the trip. I took about 75 pictures.I tried to put it all into a poem but kinda hard. Here goes. Thank you.

A Walk Down Memory Lane
June 19, 2010
By Rose Marie Rideout

Hubby and I went for a ride today,
We  decided we’d visit yesterday,
We never reconized a face,
But felt we really knew this place.

Oh look, the blackboard’is still the same,
We  could hear each child’called by name.
The teacher wore that same stern smile,
That frightened each and every child.

We weren’t sure if we should stay,
So quietly we just slipped away.
We found ourselves on familiar ground,
With pews and pictures all around.

In the corner sat an organ so old,
A pot belly stove to shun out the cold.
A special place for the choir to sing,
A rope hung down for the bell to ring.

The cook house was next in line,
With baked beans and brown bread so fine.
We  remembered the benches from Pop’s old house,
Holes in the floorboards, to hide a mouse.

A young boy who may have been 9 or 10,
Told us the History of all down Memory Lane,
He knew the story as though he lived there,
Back in the time of the 40 and 50 years.

How wonderful! And you've captured that capture so well, Rose! I bet the smells were powerful - I think they are the most important sense to triggering and storing memory. How rejuvenating to be able to re-experience it all - Fred looks so at home behind the desk, there! Great write, thank you. xx

Sometimes "memory Lane" is not actually a place, but more an actual thought that brings about the remembrance of a "Memory Lane." Loved reading this, Rosie.

I knew you would love it, this is one of my favorite places in Nova Scotia and few people who have come here to visit from out of town get away without me taking them there. I knew both you and Fred would love it, and you can see where a lot of my ideas and inspirations came for in my Nostalgia book not to mention all the pictures in it as well. Your poem captures most of this wonderful place that brings back so many memories of people of our generation. Glad you liked it Rose.
