Wild weather can evoke my appreciation of a warm and safe abode, but what about the others?

Deep in the night, when the wind roars

Like a burst of fury from some unseen leviathan from the deep

It shakes my humble abode and startles me from sleep

Fighting with the rain in a violent exhibition of force,

Wind urging and thrusting the deluge off course

Windows that seem to melt the dark images outside

That illuminate when the lightening joins in for the ride

But this awesome display is all put asunder

By the fearsome roll and crash of thunder

What a spectacle of nature on this God-fearing night

Primal fear of the elements pulls faith in tight

Vaguely secure in the midst of this helter-skelter

Safe and warm in my fragile shelter

Deep in the night, when the wind roars

A night when no one should venture outdoors

There are souls that wrestle for tiny dry spaces

With neglected, rejected and dejected faces

But piety and charity provides only pity

For the homeless that shelter in a cold hearted city

Don't mind the thunderstorms too much, but tornados and earthquakes, now that is a different story...

Last Night!! I experienced "Deep in the night" the thunderous echos
that is for sure & your words detail my thoughts to reach further
into the night of sable lume...and yes those mirros do seem to melt
images in the darkness...

David,

I've always loved thunderstorms, but I'm in a warm house, yes, what about those souls that have no shelter, sad. Very well written. Welcome to the Den.
