Yet another inspiration from Campelot on the lake.........

The haunting cry of a Loon echoes across the smooth surface of the lake,
As dusk creeps along the horizon, consuming what remains of day.
Remnants of rose and gold, the last traces of the sun
Barely visible as the ebony curtain of night descends!
Shadows of giant trees reflected in the mirror of crystal clear water
Aglow with a full yellow moon anxious to claim the sky!
The heat of a summer day has relinquished its grip,
As the cool breeze off the lake brings welcome respite!
Fireflies light up the trees as though preparing the stage
For the nighttime opus approaching with the stars!
Serenity envelops the little cottage nestled against the shore,
Inside they take their places, cheerfully awaiting the opening act.
A bullfrog begins the masterpiece, like a cello leading the orchestra,
And a million crickets lend their voices to Nature’s melody!
Somewhere in the distance, a coyote sings to the rising moon,
It’s lonely howl a perfect harmony to the mounting crescendo.
Darkness touches the forest floor and gradually spreads out
Covering the lake with a rich black canvas
Upon which the universe paints a mystifying portrait!
The spellbinding entertainment continues uninterrupted,
Until the weary audience reluctantly surrenders to sleep!
Another day has slipped by, but before they close their eyes,
They silently thank Mother Nature for her blessings.
The music begins to fade as dreams whisk them away,
And as the little cottage by the lake grows quiet,
Nature turns the volume down.

Lovely rendition. I find the volume grows quiet about dawn, just about the time the fishermens' boats whine across the open water. Patrick

It is the fine details of your writing that draws a mental picture that I not only see but feel and so wish that I were there with eyes closed just listening to the music of nature.

Truly marvelous, as all lakeside concerts are, and written only as a true nature lover could.
