Pressed down by the
weight of heat, I am
cooked where I stand ---

birds are smashed to
silence.  Not a peep
lifts the air --- wind, only

a memory, as is rain.
Rain --- I remember it,
once.  It never fell as

sweat.  The sun burns
hot in monotonous skies:
unending.  Relentless ---
