MINHA NAMORADA by Carlos Lyra and Vinicius de Moraes, new words by Joel Sattler

New title: “The Stars Are Ours”

They all say that the stars go on forever

That the universe will never

Be what we want it to be

They say a man is next to nothing

But how can I be next to nothing

When the light source in my being

Of the sun shines out of me

I don’t know what makes it so, so elemental

This thing I feel so fundamental

I was dark but now I’m free

If today we go beyond the outer limit

There’s a prize and we must win it

And then tomorrow start again

The stars are ours, constellations are our heroes

Fear at absolutely zero

Where there never is an end

Earth is just a marble in my pocket

Heart a box and you unlocked it

You unlocked a supernova in my life

And now we’re flying unafraid of ever dying

Though the galaxy of our dreaming

And the endless burning night

And if you still have confusion

Know this is real and this is not a mere illusion

Deep inside you know I’m right

But if you cannot believe what you are seeing

Know that many’ve gone before us

Learning what at last was true

And so for us, the truth will meet with no resistance

The proof of love is in our existence

Infinite but only two

Minha amiga e companheira

No infinito de nós dois...

My version is based on a recording by Fabio, Jr.:

Here’s a marvelous version by Maria Bethania:
