If we were together...

if you and I were within the reach of our arms,

there is nothing more I want

then to feel your head upon my shoulder,

there is nothing more I want

then for me to have a way,

for me to have some way to whisper words of comfort

though I know words will not sooth the pain,

if there were but a way for me to hold you

to feel you close against my chest,

for you to feel me close upon your breast,

if there were but a way for me to comfort you

to say words to help ease the pain,

words to let you know

though your loved one is not one I know

but the pain you feel is also

also, in a smaller way my pain

because I care for you

because my beloved friend,

in a way,

in a smaller way your pain is my pain.

There is nothing more I want

then to feel your head upon my shoulder

then for me to have a way,

some way to whisper words of comfort.
