Some of these ideas you gave to me...
Thanks!

I had just put my hand
On the door handle
When her hand
Touched mine

I asked if I could help
She did not answer
And walked away
I asked if she wanted

To share a cab
She came back
Moved over to
The other side

I tried to strike
Up a conversation
Her attention was elsewhere
I tried. ..

Sooooo...we sat quietly
In this run down cab
In Chicago. ..
I tried to see her face

She had it covered with lace
Black lace at that
Was she in mourning
Hard to know

I was getting angry
I hate being ignored
I was just being friendly
Could she not see that

Apparently not
The cab pulled over
The mysterious woman
Paid her fare and left

As the cab took off-
I asked the driver
To go back
I paid him. ..

There was this long
Alley straight ahead
I had a hunch that is
Where she went

Down this alley
I did go
Not knowing
What I would find. ..

I came upon
The mysterious woman
She was leaning down
A beautiful dog was lying

Apparently the dog had died
Now I fully understand
Solemn and dressed in black
I put my hands on her shoulders

Told her how sorry I was
She stood up
Showed her face
" Thank-you for coming back "

She started to cry
In my arms
All I know
This mysterious woman. ..

. ..Is not mysterious at all

This is a mystery without mystery...the pain of loss, the comfort of compassion, the empathy of those who know. So much with so few words! Great poem!
