For the Rest of Us
In America today
The voices we hear are the voices of fear
Since these are the loudest and proudest
Cowardly and loud about it
Ignorant and proud about that too
Striving to stem the flow of reality
And though failing finding fame and fortune as they do
Conniving to control the populace
But fear is not what we were born nor came here for
Some never were and some are not afraid anymore
Weary and wary of whining defining us
As some resist the universe refining us
We tire of hearing the fearmongers crying
For blood
Ugly being as ugly does
As far away from home the brave are dying
For good
Because they were told for good was what it was
But then when they wondered it was just because
And the fearmongers said so on the radio
Somebody's children like mine maybe yours
Playing with fire and getting burned
Fighting old wars
A generation on when more is less
Sacrifice taken for granted by this
Negation of what they were fighting for
By goading the fearful into cowardice
And all for nothing more nor less than selfishness
Conniving to control the populace
In an atmosphere of fear when noon is midnight
The light lies low within the lamp today
As angry men shout about how being wrong is right
Who have forgotten all we ever learned
Who neither come nor go who will not grow who just say no
Only saying yes when they can take away
A freedom or two or keep us out of their sight
As they try to erase words like democracy
But we do not believe them anymore
I do not fear the fearful nor need you
A nation evolves as the world revolves
Our evolution is our revolution now
Fear is not our here nor ignorance our how
Though the fearmongers say no on the radio
Toiling to turn the tide of history
Our people know
The remote controlled and bought and paid for anger of
The sadly exploited but irrelevant
Astonishes but is not us is not what we want
And our children know that what we lack is love
The time has come now for the rest of us to say
If you are not coming get out of our way
