The Highlander

I love Scottish history and lores.

The Highlander

.

From the north the Highlander came

Riding his horse through the glen

Smiling as he rode down the trail

The heather was blooming once again
.

The beautiful Loch Lamond was near

Thistle grew in abundance here

Rivaling clans raiding their lands,

Kept the people in fear

 .

Riding his gesader (enchanter)

His claymore straped to his back

His dirk tucked in his kilt with his skean dubh

Tied with a piece of leather that was black

.

Tartan of his clan he wore so proud

As he rode through the crowd

Up to the church for his blessing from the priest

For he was off to battle, him and his beast

 .

His comrades at arms raised their glasses in cheer

For there Laird was finally here

Usia breathe for all around

The best scotch that could be found

 .

Off to battle they would all go together

Proudly showing their clan banner

Horses sweaty and breathing hard from the run

The clans battle has finally begun

I love everything to do with Scotland and this is a delightful piece, Kathy ... you capture The Highlander so well; the garb, the charge to battle, all of it. Fine write! ~Hugs, Elizabeth

Great poetry worthy of the highland bards. You captured way of life and a time when things were so different than they are now...yet somehow a lot the same. Well fone Kathy.

Ah, there be no Scot like the Scots away! [--20thC Canadian Folksong]

A fine poem a very romantic vision of the clans. When it came to it the Lairds had little trouble replacing the Scottish peasants for sheep

a good write
