Prayer for Burros and Donkeys
Dear Lord, we thank thee
for making them with longer ears
to help cool the burros' blood, and
we thank the recycled efforts of
the late 1800s Pagan and Christian
lesbian environmentalists for the ship's
sails to make the burro pack bags
for gold miners' provisions,
Let us bow our heads in a moment
of silence giving thanks to the donkey
and the stretcher bearer of WWI who
used the donkey to carry wounded soldiers
to safety,
Messiah, in the name of Jesus Christ
who rode the donkey into Jerusalem indicating
a simple way of life, avoiding luxury as noted in
the context of the Hebrew Bible,
Numbers 22:22-41 "The Lord opened the
mouth of the donkey" - verse 28 - and it speaks
to Balaam,
Dear Lord let us recall Judges 15:13-17 where
the hero Samson slays Philistines with the jawbone
of an ass,
Dear Almighty One, let us awaken to the fact that
traditionally, Mary is portrayed as riding a donkey while
pregnant. The cross on the donkey’s shoulders comes
from the shadow of Christ’s crucifixion, placing the
donkey at the foot of the cross. At that time, that hair
cut from this cross and hung from a child’s neck in a bag
would prevent fits and convulsions, Hallelujah,
And last, Lord, of two things of great importance
of which we shall pray in understanding of one of
Aesop's fables which has an ass dressed in a lion
skin who gives himself away by braying, and in closing,
a German proverb claims a donkey can wear a lion suit
but its ears will still stick out and give it away. Amen.
