The man says Medicare is one of the good things about turning 65
I say, “If that’s the best he can do it wasn’t worth it to survive
I certainly hope the golden years has much better things to present
I love watching reruns of In the Heat of the night but it will not keep me content
Whatever happened to that South Seas cruise we were going to take?
Or the hours we would spend sunbathing at that mountain lake?
The problem is this time of the year I would rather stay in air conditioned comfort
And of course regular blood tests, medical checkups are of greater import
For exercise I grab my cane and take a short walk
It may be interrupted if I run into a friend with whom I wish to talk
I may spend hours just examining the leaves on the trees
I may get lost in a daydream while watching the birds and the bees
My wife and I used to kiss each other and it led to hours of delight
At our age a quick peck on the cheek and gentle “I love you” seems just about right
However I do have her, my kids and their kids to keep me happy
How my eyes light up when I hear them call me Pappy
