Jesus Casts Demons to the Swine

Waves crashing and mighty wind blowing

Fishing boat taking water too fast

Rocking out to the storm as he slept

His woman strapped herself to the mast.

Going down seemed the only way out

How she loved the taste of untimely death

But this Jesus was not her only one

Was that whiskey she smelled on his breath?

To sleep so soundly in the midst of the storm

Jack Daniels seemed logical for some reason

But stirring, he reached for the captain’s helm

Smiling at her and her lopsided treason.

Violently splintering the boat on the rocks

And God praying their souls for to keep

Swine possessed, and falling into the lake

Jesus wakes with the woman curled up at his feet.

Fantastic poetry and the picture of Jesus is beautiful. Amen!

I like this piece - it has a Beat poet's sense of transgression - and a certain earthiness that contrasts nicely with the implicit spiritual theme. The play on the ancient story works well here - and leaves the reader pondering a range of themes.

history states Jesus & his followers drank wine
and in that I have myself wondered
how did they know to not over indulge?
Did they ever get a hang over?
Gettin a biblical buzz ok? Gettin wicked drunk is not...you know?
Alcohol never comes with a quota limit per poundage
well you make me ponder...
so did he kill her?
Or save her?
was this sexual Dayvid?....hummmm :)
