many a knight went to battle to win the fair maiden

Lady and The Knight

Tis a story so old as time
Of a lady and a knight
The kings' prize for loyalty
Was his daughter's hand
To the knight that would
Protect his land
Knights served their laird well
For they knew the lady fair
So young and beautiful
Ebony eyes and raven hair
With many other knights
Off to war he was sent
Traveling through alien country
To ward off attack of the laird's land
Battle after battle
He bravely did fight
Many were injured
Many were lost that fearsome night
Returning home after the war
The laird did keep his word
The fair maiden was to be his bride
All through the clan they rejoice

On their wedding night

Like a classic medieval tale, you have created an ambiance and a feeling from a time long ago. Love and best wishes to you, Kathi,

Very refreshing poem! Lovely job with your word choice I should say!

I love Camelot and was in it as a child, so all of this speaks to the heart.

Ah, the age of chivalry, it seems, is not dead, Kathleen. Did you ever hear rodgers and hart's take on Camelot, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's court; swell, witty songs therein contained, I do proclaim.

How nice to remember "Camlot" and the shining knights of days when, at least a few, were noted and rewarded for the good deeds that they had done.
Your friend, Mark

Knights sure were valiant! But I always wonder about the maiden who doesn't have a choice in the matter.

History has its romantic customs but war was still war and young men fought it.

The way life once was for many, a time far removed from today, but brought back through your words...

Be always safe,
