This poem is about three years old and was recently cited by a peer as, his words, 'I can say, without fear of contradiction, that this is one of the finest love poems I have ever read, and it is certainly one of the most profoundly exquisite poems in the canon of Western Literature.' I was pleased and humbled.

my passion for you is aubergine,
deep and dark and full of the blood
that floods my heart and limbs
when I look upon you, naked,
stretched out as evidence
that God must have been a man;
Rodin with flesh and bone,
sculpting your body as a temple
to an unnamed goddess,
that she may find a home
and draw near her worshipers
and at least one poet,
his heart aubergine with awe
and lust and the desire
to consecrate and defile
with every thrust and breath
and word
left in his body.
