A friend recently got himself into a hard place. The results haven't shaken down yet.....

        ….Ded. to DBM

I’ll resist the impulse

To dope slap you

Upside the head

And ask “What in HELL

Were you thinking?”

That would not be helpful

And would only make you

Feel worse.

Perceived necessity

Can make us do crazy things

Regardless of what

Said necessity might be.

Now that the toothpaste

Has been squeezed

From the tube

It’s damned hard

To shove it all

Back in again.

The milk

Has been spilled

And it’s already made

A colossal mess

With more to come

Events have a way

Of taking on

A life of their own

And it leaves you feeling

Even more helpless

Than before.

Things are going to change

Believe me.

Changes you would

Never have thought possible

A new life

Is opening up before you

And at our age

Starting over again

Is a bitch

Never mind this time

You’ll start over

At least twice.

So hang on tight

You’ll have to ride,

Ride this puppy

Wherever it takes you

Without a lot of control.

Hopefully you will be blessed

By people around you

Who care

And will walk through

This mess with you.

Also know

That nothing you can do

Affects the way

Your God

Feels about you

Regardless of what

Anyone else says.

He loves you

As completely as ever

To do otherwise

Would contradict

His character.

Can feel like

Hell itself

But go through it

You must.

Just know

Beyond a doubt

He won’t leave you there…

Where you land

On the other end

Won’t look anything

Like where you are

But at least

You will land.

Some things

You will lose,

But you will be surprised

At what you will gain.

I tell you this

Because I’ve been

Someplace like

Where you are now-

And I came through

A little tattered maybe,

But in one piece,

And so will you.

A most encouraging account, Chip; a gift for your friend to consider and act upon. Love and peace,

I see a lot of compassion in this one, and stark truth, truth that one must face if there is to be any change. The encouragement offered is just as honest and real as the indictment of the beginning verses.

Sometimes the gift of life places road blocks that we must find way to overcome. Yes, it is true that there are circumstances that have a life of their own and we must follow through, hopefully to a positive outcome...

a nice validating, inspiring poem. I like how real it is.
