Autumn leaves dance around my feet
littering the ground with splashes of color.
A celebration of life and death
painted in vibrant reds and golds.
Through the withered stalks of summer's bounty
a bitter wind whispers in my ear, accompanying me,
urging me along the gravel path.
Above my head birds call to each other as they fly to places unknown.
All around creation moves in tandem harmony towards the shadows.
Only man is foolish enough to think his days enumerable. And I?
I look down, quickening my pace, shaking the chill from body and mind,
ignoring the lessons around me.
