I love September. Picture taken in first grade. How I loved school all my life! But I'm sure not knocking retirement from the classroom either.

September is a month of new beginnings,

New classrooms, new clothes, new school year,

New teachers, new friends, new weather!

Summer sweeps us away to adventures or boredom,

Time for watching the cows graze and planting a garden.

September jumps up and calls us to move on,

To open our minds, let the wind style our hair.

Of course, I'm a September baby, and probably a little

More than partial to the sweet call of September.

I liked the observation in your poem about September being a month of new beginnings. Usually January comes to my mind, so this is fresh!
You have a wonderful way of putting things, like "let the wind style our hair" that! Your picture goes perfectly with this poem.

Now if it would just cool off. . .

Just kidding. September takes you back, doesn't it? Swear
I can smell notebook paper and "two number 2 pencils." A distant bonfire tantalizes and leaves begin to crunch underfoot. New school shoes? Always feel mixed emotions. Went back to school so many times (as an adult, I mean), that not going feels like playing hooky.
Glad to be out, but not, right? Leaves are dying, and that is sad. But think of the new life they generate!

Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane. I had a blast!

Thanks for this wonderful poem highlighting September, that month when we all get back to the busy schedules and busy lives.
It is indeed a time for reflection as well.
The line:To open our minds, let the wind style our hair,is a real good one.
Continued success~

I love this write, Eileen. I can relate to it very well. I loved school as well and ended up teaching high school for many years. I miss the "kids" (young adults really) and most of my colleagues but not the rest of it. I love this time of year as it brings back many fond memories of new school years and also heralds the beginning of my favorite season. Thank you for sharing. Love and best wishes,
