... I thought I would stand silently by this weekend, as a mark of solidarity and respect, but... well, I wrote this a year ago for a friend and never posted it, so now seems as good a time as any... My love as always to you all. Desiderata xx

ANNIVERSARY

I stumble over this date
like the absence
of your letters
fallen through my letterbox,

like a bump in the road,
what lay ahead
unseen a year ago

when I couldn’t know
what it is
to have my birthday
unremembered
by you.

All other mail
is returned
to sender,
your bills stopped,

but still invisible notes
pile high behind your
long-shut door.

Those are the ones to you
from me: postcards, reminders;
red letter days of life and death –
I shan’t forget yours.

My gosh, this is a work of art, in suspended animation, raw emotions.

Kate, you have expressed with great passion what I have so long and often found myself unable to do. This poem rings with an underlying truth in emotion that could not to be contrived. It is the music of happiness and melancholy so beautifully blended. May peace and love be always with you my dear friend. Jon Michael

Eloquent and sobering was your pen this day, Kate. I just love it when I read something which has been done with feeling deep within. This is one of those times.

This made me take a quickened, involuntary breath to stop tears from welling in my eyes. How perfectly you write of the immaculate heart that forgives and loves even through the deepest pain of all, being ignored. Absolutely beautiful penning, Kate. Another one of yours for my library.

Take care,

Sherry

You have done this well. Your words will ring true with many who read this.
