i miss my love

the way my unchained heart would rise up

as if it could escape my ribs with lightness

i yearn for the way i could hold you

velvet skin to velvet skin, our legs intertwined

as if we were meant to be one body

how your liquid bedroom eyes were pools

to drown the sorrows of yesterday in

how the sincerity of your sweet nothings

led me closer to forgetting that i’d let in love before

acceptance untying all the shoulds

your unbearably light feather fingertips

erasing bruises that ran to the bone

it was safe to love you, to love this

until there was just me and you

no rules needed, just the honesty

of your skin and my skin

of your eyes melting mine

of my caresses writing love poems

of how the tides of our wanting

            Cresting over unquenchable thirst

of dancing with fluid oneness

as time waited still and silent

and how i miss the tenderness i felt

the little kindnesses and grand gestures that came easily

my heart had finally grown bigger than fear

…real love is undaunted by such trivial things

how i miss the anticipation of your smile

the butterflies when I saw you

that the clouds lifted and optimism ruled

i liked me better with you

when i had your arms to run to i was never weak

the ways my mind and body felt peace

in the sparkle of your eyes

how i miss being able to give all

to melt in another inseparable

yet somehow in the end i knew

that though i loved you immensely

i didn’t ever want forever with you

but i wanted to forever love like i love you

you could say in the end that i fell in love with love

in love with the romance of slow dancing

the candlelight, the way you sang to me,

the forgotten tender caress that brought me to tears

the lazy nights of movies wrapped safely in your arms

where the chill of winter was far away

it wasn’t you i loved quite as much as remembering

what it is to love and be loved back like that

without the anger, without the pain

without friction, smoothly fusing hearts

to love like children in a perfect world

You are truly a talented poet, you write from the heart, not from the mind. You feelings and emotions come from deep within, as they are layed bare for others to share. Keep doing what your doing C. Nichols as your words touch the souls of others. We have some very talented writers here at Authors Den I must say. And your one of them. Yours truly Author Garry E. Lewis
