Inspired By a Recent Article in Newsweek,

And By a Dry Lake Bed That I Came Across,

On My Most Recent Trek Up To The Northwood

“Water is life’s mater and matrix,

Mother and medium;

There is no life, without water.”

Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

Earth’s rapidly dwindling fresh water

Is now becoming more precious than oil

Droughts, global warming, and pollution

Causing Earth’s water to dry up and spoil

Ancient, life-giving, fresh water lakes, now vanishing

All across our now, fresh water-depleted planet, today

Even in the U.S., in life-providing lakes, like Lake Mead

Water levels are dropping, water getting scarcer, every day

And the latest global water studies are horrendous

Mankind will soon begin to engage in Water Wars

The world’s ‘Water Haves’ vs. ‘Water Have Nots’

And those without water, will not enjoy life, anymore

And, of course, just like Earth’s rapidly dwindling oil

Modern corporations, are already attempting to ‘cash in’

Fresh Water, which should be freely available, to everyone

Will be sold at premium prices – yet another modern day sin

Two huge corporations in the still water-rich state of Alaska

Already have plans to ship and sell Alaskan water to Mumbai

The day is rapidly approaching, when the ‘Fresh-Water Haves’

Will be able to decide, who on our planet, is going to live or die

And some still very foolishly believe that we are not killing our planet

While in truth, the planet we are now leaving to our future generations

Will be a planet, in which everything, including water, will have a price

And those not able to pay it, will have a life with very little joy or elation

“Water is life’s mater and matrix,

Mother and medium;

There is no life, without water.”

Hard to argue, but Ma Nature has lots of tricks. Who knows, after the ice caps thaw the sahara could again be an oasis. Of course that would mean Kentucky could be the new dust belt. Patrick

You are just a harbinger of doom of late, brother...I may have awakened happy but then I read this kind of thing and then go through my day less happy, but still a good thing to know and try to do something about...by the way, why sell OUR water to another country, thats nuts...I mean I feel for those that have not, but it doesn't seem right for US...e

ED - WELL SAID!

From The Rhyme of The Ancient Mariner ...
"Water water everywhere - but not a drop to drink!"

SO - we'll just DE-salinate the Oceans and WALK to Europe! TK.

Water, with the poor, they will share.

True Ed, but doesn't this just fit in with everything, that is coming to an eventual end? We see it in all creation and the way our present society treats one another, and our animals, we don't deserve to have this earth to live on anymore. Humanity is destroying the gift God gave us,and has been for many years now. I'm glad I won't be here for the finish!

Ed, hopefully poems, articles and comments like these will help to awaken the dunderheads and cause more awareness. We can all do better whether it's ringing the bell or responding to the ringing. I recently wrote about this very subject in my poem titled "GREEN" Keep up the good work, thanks Dick.

Will be? I passed by a drug store advertising Clear drinking water for $3.25 a bottle. We don't pay that for Coka Cola.
