The leaf clung to the maple tree’s branch at the setting sun
The summer had ended, the autumn came and the day is done
A lonely bird flies overhead, flying low
The shivering leaf gives a reflection of the evenings glow
Then an unyielding breeze shakes the leaf and blows it away
The leaf is separated from the tree on this day
This leaf was fresh and green withstanding the summer’s heat
Growing and maturing as sunrise and sunset each day would repeat
Now it was turning to a buttery pigment
And as it now blows through the air in a gust of excitement
It knows not what it will find when the draft has finally died
It will likely land on the ground with other fallen leaves to reside
Together they will form the most beautiful carpet of reds, yellows, gold’s and brown
A most picturesque spectacular coating spread out on the ground
This leaf from the maple tree joins with the others
From Oaks and dogwoods, saplings and shrubs but now all sisters and brothers
What a wondrous display put on by Mother Nature each year
As the air cools and the autumn rules and its splendor appears
