There is sadness in her eyes now
One which I wish I could eliminate somehow
It is a look of despondency, woe and sorrow
As if she sees no likelihood of a sunrise tomorrow
I search for ways to make her smile and raise her spirits
But though I give a word of encouragement she does not hear it
She is lost in a maze of self-dejection
I see the misery and feel her depression
Is it not sad that all the good we do can soon fade and seem of little value?
But one mistake will never fade but become a curse which tortures you
I want to help her remember the happy times, the blessed years we’ve enjoyed
I would that I could lift her from the valley of despair where she only sees an empty void
