Merganzers

I remember that night in your car
The backseat down
Our kisses like flashes of lightning
And a flickering blue flame

Our innocence intact
Staring into your eyes
I cannot forget their depths
And the intense thumping of your heartbeat

Kisses had been enough
To quench our souls
On that humid rainy night
Fingers intertwined like the coupling of tentacles
The mating of mergansers
The play of otters
In the quiet deep cold river rubbing noses

It might strike me at an odd afternoon time
That I am back in your car
Staring into innocent eyes
Remembering the fire of our skin
The tender meeting our our lips,
Our hearts,
Our curious exploration of
Young love

I can close my eyes and see the raindrops on the windsheild
And feel that flickering blue flame
from the heat of our searing kisses.
