The Black Dress

Twas here where they first danced together

She sits wearing the dress she wore on that night

An orange candle burns bright in her lantern

Glowing to seaward a wee hopeful beacon of light

Twas here that he once held and kissed her

Here he pledged his love eternal and much more

That night her dress was love-stained forever

For she gave more than her heart on that shore

Twas here that he told her that he’d soon return

Then they’d trade in her black dress for one white

Tis that dream that she clung to with love’s hope

Why she still waits on that shore with her light

Now some say her sailor must have perished

His body to rest eternal in the cold Atlantic sea

Others say he was just playing her heartstrings

Perhaps twas only a young girl’s sweet memory

Aye, but her heart could love nary another

But the sailor she prayed would return

So each night she waits in her black dress

And her wee orange candle will forever burn…

Felix, a beautiful, tragic love story my dear friend. How many times has a similar scenario played out on some lonely section of coastal beach? A young maiden awaiting the return of her lover from the icy grip of the seas. Beautiful poetry my dear friend. Love and peace to you. Jon Michael

The ultimate romantic poem!! I just love everything about this one.
The line that really got me:

"Then they’d trade in her black dress for one white"

Fantastic, You never disappoint us with your romantic heart.
The artwork, stunning!

Fee, You just seem to pump out one great poem after another and this one is near the top of the list. Though in this one the pain isn't yours, sometimes it seems your work is the product of a pained heart. I know you only from your words, but they paint magnificent visions. My wish for you is less pain. (but hopefully not at the expense of these many wonderful verses) Thanks Dick
