A messenger of gods am I

In frantic race through time and space

As I embrace a comet's trace

You may see me passing by

But just this once it seems I've time

I shall narrate, whilst you spectate

To stop and tell you of your fate

In simple form of rhyme

On Mount Olympus perfect height

Discarded gods display their might

And play their endless games of chance

Whilst eat and drinking to their fill

They choose their pieces as they will

And all of life's a shadow dance

Today may be tomorrow past

And yesterday tomorrow yet

For gods at play are not surpassed

And Time's dictats are seldom met

Today, for let us call it thus

The pieces could be all of us

The gods may start the game again

Who knows where? Who knows when?

But twisting fates of mortal men

May somehap you disgust

But stay,

Go not hastily away

Watch divinities at play.

Quiet, I'll take you through their halls of splendour

If surprise and awe they should engender

Say not a word for you are not a member

Note the sun is but a candle

The moon the smallest type of lamp

Stars are something they can handle

Over which they often tramp

For long they've missed your fond devotion

Will they drown you in the ocean ?

Which god will start the sport in motion?

You may think this but a pantomime

Or maybe just a nursery rhyme

But which divine will play this time?

If it should be the god of love, fear not she means you well

If it should be the god of wine, enjoy the fun for he's a swell

But be not mistaken they're not all Greek

And very few are mild and meek

And if it is the god of war,

or mighty Zeus, or even Thor

Their power can rock the very heaven

Or destroy the earth with Armageddon
