"In Him was life and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it." (NIV:John 1:4 & 5)

Do you see me?
Could you love me?
I'm an old sinner,
condemned and unclean.
As a leper,
folk avoid me.
Are you like others
who shun and demean?

So rebellious,
full of evil,
My steps direct me
to paths of defeat.
Even children
flee my presence.
Are you the healer
who'll make me complete?

In my darkness,
I sense the Light.
My hands outstretched, I
reach into its gleam.
Can I touch you?
Will you save me?
Are you a savior
or only a dream?

Even as I
stumble forward,
False prophets bind me
with cunning deceit.
Whispers of hope,
secret longings....
Could you in mercy
make my life complete?

Can I yield?
Bow before You?
I need forgiveness
for hatred and strife.
I have sinned, Lord.
I need Jesus.
Oh, hear me, Savior,
and give me new life.

"...though the world was made through Him,
the world did not recognize Him.
...Yet to all who received Him,
to those who believed in His Name,
He gave the right to become children of God."
                 (from NIV John 1:10-12)
