“We can only be said to be alive,

In those moments,

When our hearts are conscious of our treasures.”

Thornton Wilder

The forest is extremely quiet

It is draped in a golden hue

The silence, so very peaceful

As we see you come into view

The three of us had risen early

The chill of Autumn in the air

We had not seen one other soul

Until we saw you, standing there

We had thought you were still sleeping

We had tried hard, not to awaken you

But, you knew where you would find us

Suddenly, you appear, directly in our view

All three of us are now delighted

That you’ve joined our early walk

The four of us, head down the path

Content to be together, no need to talk

The crunch of foot and paw on leaves

The realization, that winter soon arrives

The four of us, silently traipse on, together

The four seasons, a very big part of our lives

Soon, this old wooded path will change once more

Soon, it will be covered with wondrous white snow

Soon, as our faithful dogs accompany me, this Winter

All of us are hoping, you’ll once again join us, as we go

The forest is extremely quiet,

It is draped in a golden hue;

The silence, so very peaceful,

As we see you come into view.

Such serenity and calm externally and internally, it is the season for reflection.

ps I found out yesterday my 11 year old doggie has cancer and I don't know whether to put him through the operation to remove lump or not. Is it generally good to try? I so love him. Don't know.
