This piece was written about my uncle Jack who left a large whole in my aunt when he passed. She shared with me how she copes with his passing in a phone call, hince, Dear Jack the poem was born.

This morning over coffee
I sat myself down
at the table by the window
just hoping your around.
Hoping I could see you there
coffee cup in hand
staring out the window,
I can almost touch your hand.

Its been hard you know
to live here torn apart
when for years you were my partner,
my best friend, my whole heart.

So honey I need to tell you
I can't bare it any more
the house is cold and lonely
I am lost to the core.

I want you to know
I will always love you best
your picture hangs in my heart
and on my pillow when I rest.

I wont forget the tender way
you love me or your laugh,
I can still feel you kiss my cheek
before you walk down the path.

So honey heres the story
and what I need you to know,
I have found someone special
to help me let you go.

His name is Leo
and I know you wont mind,
if he uses your side of the bed
and keeps me warm for a time.
He doesn't do the gardening
but he tracks in mud and snow
he can't drive the car
or ware your sleepers you know.

I know you wont mind
if he uses your favorite chair,
after all, he is the man
who lives here now,
I think you can share.

I sure wish you had met him dear
before you walked home
his heart is pure as sunshine
and his love is good as gold.

I find myself on memory lane
as I walk around the house,
I can hear you play your fiddle as I go.
I sure appreciate your sacrificing
the time you spent with the boys
playing down at the honky tonk,
with Chet, Glen and Jerry making noise.

I bet my dear Leo
would have danced a little jig,
while you played you fiddle happily
you know he's not very big.
And oh by the way dear
since our life is still so full,
with all the memories of our loving
with the kids and grandkids getting old,
Leo has four legs and is just a little fellow,
its the only way I could bare to have
another man lay next to my pillow.

Aww, this is so special! I'm glad your Aunt found a little companion to give her smiles. A beautiful story...thanks for putting it into a poem.
