Ever been at the airport when a troop of soldiers is heading overseas? It's a humbling experience.....you can't help but feel pride and awe that these people, who don't even know you, are bravely standing up for you! My thoughts and prayers are with all of our veterans, especially as Remembrance Day draws near......NEVER forget!

The airport lounge is crowded
But the atmosphere is grim.
Soldiers heading off to war,
Uniforms sharp and trim!
Tears and hugs and kisses,
Great sadness in their eyes,
Families wearing valiant smiles,
Saying warm goodbyes.
Amid a sea of broken hearts,
Where families weep in fear,
A youthful soldier stands alone,
No one to hold him near!
Silently he watches them,
The boarding call begins.
His comrades leave so much behind
But who’ll remember him?
He’s just another soldier,
A number, rank and name;
Leaving all he’s ever known,
But to him it’s not the same!
He’s answering his duty call,
To stand up with the rest,
Protecting all that would be lost,
If he didn’t do his best.
He is our brother, husband, friend,
Though we’ve never seen his face,
And he’s a hero through and through,
The best of the human race!
Let’s remember all of them,
Every single day of the year,
And especially on Remembrance Day,
Keep their memory near!

A wonderfully well written reminder to us all. Our young service men and women sacrifice so very much. They need to be in our thoughts and prayers every day.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful tribute,
Donna

I am pro military but anti war. So my only comment here is that this piece was extremely well crafted.

Wonderful, wonderful words, Annabel. I'm at the air port very seldom, but have seen our military men and women in other places. Most recently at the funeral of the son of one of my neighbors. The young man was sitting directly in front of me and I could not help but tap him on the shoulder and thank him. Yes they are the best of the human race.
