Let's call this a different sort of prayer for Thanksgiving.

Mercy,  press tightly

against my shoulder,

and hold me,

hold me even more tightly

as the moist breath

of the early June breeze

wafts its way

ever so softly

through the window,

and the night is alive

with the ambience

of amphibian sound,

frogs singing the mating dance

down at the dark waters

from the chirps

of the little gray-green fellows

to the loud “auums”

of the bull frogs.

Mercy, seep down

into the flow of my being.

Let not the brittle black

with its harsh pin-pricks

lay against my mind,

but pass me into slumber instead

under the gentle

canopy of blue-black sky

where the stars hint

of being forever

with their twinkling refractions.

Mists of love

cradle me now

coming up from the deep

where life swims,

and hops and struggles

with sinuous, serendipitous grace

in sonorous songs

of early summer joys.

And, Mercy, caress

me in your arms

that I might sleep,

the sleep of the loved,

against the night

of life passing.

Oh so lovely, Jerry, the words spoken.

This is so incredibly beautiful. I relate so well to the feelings that well between these words. You have used "mercy" in such a prayerful and sincere way that one cannot help but to want to reach across time and space and soothe the pain. Your word choices are wonderful and when read aloud, your sounds are emollient to the soul...especially that wonderful "s" sound in your last stanza. Beautiful, Jerry!

Another work that touches us all with your unique observations of the physical world around us even as we pray to share the Mercy of blessed sleep to awaken once more surrounded by Love and the ones we cherish in our heart.

And I am so thankful to be flooded with the love of family and, especially, my Dearest Jodi, with whom I have shared all of life
for nearly sixty-four years.

Happy Thanksgiving, Jerry, and to your beloved Belinda.

Really lovely work, Jerry. It fills me with a sense of peace, calm. Gorgeous imagery.

The spiritual dimension of a forthcoming celebration,
'Mercy' a fine choice for central thought.
It's good to see you again, Jerry, it's been much too long.

This is truly a lovely, apt, timely, and splendid poetic gift for Thanksgiving, Jerry. Ours is in October but your poem is relevant at all times anywhere. Love and peace to you,

You have outdone yourself, Jerry! This is simply breathtaking... You left me with tears in my eyes under the summer stars I used to dream under while the bullfrogs sang their mating songs.

I've missed you my friend. Hope you have a splendiforous Thanksgiving.
Cryssa :~)
You leave us all with a most beautiful and touching poem, a poem that will always touch every human experience. You'll be a poet on the other side, I am certain that Mercy has heard your soul song, and will be with you. You strung a ladder of pearls, of words, and wisdom, and feeling, and someone will surely hold the other end, to help you up, for you are a treasure to them, as you are to us.
Bless you always friend, and bon voyage, say hello to our friend Mark Twain will ya. Love and peace! Jasmin Horst
