by Ted L Glines
My day drifted by full of talk you could keep
'til I laid my head down and fell fast asleep,
and found myself mingled in a grinning crowd
full of people excited and laughing out loud,
we dashed right down to the Kris Kringle Store,
shopped 'til we dropped buying gifts for the poor,
finding trinkets for elders, to make them smile,
and something for cripples and those in denial,
up and down the aisles did we gleefully sail
buying gifts for the guys and the gals in the jail,
blankets and food, worth more than raw gold
to those who were homeless and out in the cold,
then we raced to the shelters to rescue the pets
who'd been thrown away [God never forgets],
we should have been breathless, we could have been tired
but Jesus' smiles left us glad and inspired,
then I opened an eye and what did I see?
my dream had been great, so happy and free,
a new way of seeing,
a new way of being,
something worth doing to validate me.
Merry Christmas !
