An Unattainable Dream?

This is talked about, hoped for, and prayed for, but never truly seen.

Perhaps it is an impossible dream,
Even though it’s prayed for every night.
Angels in their anguish must want to scream,
“Can’t you humans figure out war isn’t right?
Evil triumphs whenever nations fight.”

Oh, if only Man’s heart was filled with love,
No longer would the fierce hawks kill the dove.

Each nation has bigots, zealots, and fools.
All countries also have men who seek peace.
Rarely do the peacekeepers make the rules.
The day may yet come when all wars decease.
How much longer before the world knows peace?
