An unsentimental approach to Christmas, but a Christmas wish for JESUS, that's the gift I'd like HIM to receive, The gift of love he shared with all of us. Don't get me wrong, I am not religious, I just love who HE is.

Naked, he stood before his enemies,
Love his only weapon,
Yet, only hate HE sees,
Then spat He was upon,

An army of twelve good men,
Too, a traitor there was one,
To all his CHRISTIANS they were ken,
The followers of GOD, HIS SON,

Now, we have shields of weapons,
Hate, not love to wield their might,
Flags hanging near his altar, HIS CROSS upon,
Flying colours, of all patriots delight.

Every week, we gather in HIS name,
Hold hands, and love we preach,
Yet make wars and bring HIM shame,
HIS very words, we breach,

A cross of gold we bear,
Upon our bony chest,
Different uniforms we wear,
Upon, which patriotic medals rest,

Our leaders blessed with earthly power,
Blessed by all, by church and state,
To protect us from that deadly hour,
The love, that made our GOD, his fate,

Silver shekels have their way,
Do sell our souls to hate,
Instead of one, a million traitors are today,
That lost the key to heavens gate,

Love, a weapon now in hand,
Never mind the other cheek,
Love your enemy, we not understand,
Nor that part about the meek.

Peace on earth, and love for all,
That be HIS wish, HIS way,
After all that was HIS call,
Give HIM this gift, on CHRISTMAS DAY.©07/12/2010

Awesome piece. You really capture the hypocrisy of the age in your writing. I especially appreciated your words in the verse:

"Every week, we gather in HIS name,
Hold hands, and love we preach,
Yet make wars and bring HIM shame,
HIS very words, we breach"

Excellent!

Beautiful and compassionate poetry.
By the way, it is such a heart-warming picture of you and your pup on your bio.
Peace always,

I often wonder these days if there really are any 'true Christians' left. Some so called 'Christian churches' today even preach Hate, not Love.

God is love and your poem conveys his essence and his wish.

Spirituality, which you have in abdundance, Jasmin, isn't the provenance of the religious, and I'm inclined to think is absent from many in their efforts to impose agendas.
Yours is a soul that sees and feels regardless of denomination.
