~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Could I have paid the price the awful end;
As broken men moaned loud, “Don’t leave me friend.”
Spirits death wrapped; bodies ripped asunder;
Blank eyes cry, “Don’t let me die my brother.”
Can a pal recall final earthly thoughts
And pass them undisguised to those who cared—
A Mom, pop, a wife, a soldier’s new born tots—
Those who nightly prayed, “Let our man be spared!”
War gives human nature such a senseless fright,
I'll ne'er face ‘cause I’m much too old to fight.
My new friend Fought in the Viet Nam war and watched his buddy get killed behind him. Says it was awful, is only able to talk to me about things he never told anyone else. So comforting to me he can do this.
