ďOn a lone winterís evening,

When the frost has wrought a silence.Ē

John Keats

A major snowstorm

Howling arctic winds

Now, the night is falling

And calm silence has set in

My wife, tucked in a blanket

My dogs, content by the fire

To visit the silent, frozen wood

I have a strong, compelling desire

I don warm boots and a heavy parka

And, I eagerly set out through the snow

The only sound, snow crunching underfoot

The forest so peaceful, the trees now all aglow

I stand here now, amidst a silent, frozen place

Not one sound, now reaching my straining ears

Not one single feathered songbird, now singing out

Not one sight of any living creature, not even a deer

Yet, I find great beauty and comfort, here in this place

In my mindís eye, I can still picture these woods, in spring

No matter the season of the year, or the temperature out here

This forest, and these trees, an inner peace to me, always bring

Stunning imagery, Ed! I totally agree with you....there's no place like being right smack in the middle of nature. We're planning a trip to my sister's cottage in the woods for New Years...and I can't wait!

There's nothing as great as that "strong, compelling desire" to visit "the silent, frozen wood"'s a call, almost a vocation, for you're at one with what matters.

Masterfully done Mr. Ed and I could feel myself there right beside you enjoying the solitude of winter's feast...

Nicely said Ed. In my hometown, they are snowed in about now, school called off and few if any are finding it all this beautiful, but it will be much more beautiful as a memory. Thanks Dick

Through your words I can see and feel this beautiful evening in Nature. I can almost hear the silence. How serene and lovely!
Much peace, love and light,
