Transparency should not be confused with weakness

I once stood so strong and stout
Chin up chest protruding out
Confident and so sure
Of me and so much more
Thoughts of uncertainty and insecurity
Hoping that this storm doesn’t mean the life of me
Trying to find the strength to sustain
To endure this hurt to shake this pain
Looking around trying to find my way
Longing for the night dreading the day
Wanting to be honest and share what I feel
Wishing this was all a dream and not so real
My heart,  its beating and its rhythm I can’t describe
Although its feelings I can no longer hide
So many around me add to the hurt inside
With what they don’t say, and their rumors and lies
Destroying my character without thinking twice
About how their words would cause me sleepless nights
If there was a loving hand just for me to hold
I would hold it tight like silver or gold
Maybe my tears would finally cease
And my self confidence would then increase
But now I sit with my head hanging down
Holding on to this pen, this friend I found
