Far Fuckin' out, man
I find myself surrounded
By ersatz counter culture

Their tie-dyed shirts
All purchased at the
Local headless shop

They were bred and born
Too late to groove the real deal
But feel no shame ripping it off

Are they living out
Fantasies their parents were
Too chicken to enjoy

Or is it that they're
Rebels without a clue
Without a cause of their own

thought provoking, reminding me of a promo vid I did for a retro band, "The Hippies" -
the music was right, but the mood all wrong, as they donned their wigs and Goodwill clothes.
They were not there, how could they know?

as much as i want to say wha???? i was there, right in the middle of it all, from woodstock to washington dc to protest kent state and yes, the pepper mace, the impromptu chicken wire jails and lsd nights and free clinic days (daze) and all i can say is , maybe they are just sorry they missed the best decades of the century

Soooooooo..that was you paddering around up there in my brain.. I think this so often but have never let it "slip through my fingers" .. sigh.. my eyes still feel the sting of that pepper gas and the crashing blows of the billy clubs.. Woodstock 2 is evidence enough that these people do NOT "get it!" Great write, Rog.. and something that needed saying. thanks. katy.

This is so good Roger, they may have love, but wonder if they'll ever have peace???

I loved this...brought back memories.
Excellent write and preceptive as to how
the hippies felt back then.

Every generation redefines the next. Free love of the 60s was replaced by AIDS of the 90s. The true rebels are the ones who will change things.

The hippie age was way before my time, but I would give anything to just catch a glimpse of Woodstock. Unfortunately the Woodstock 'revival' a few years back did nothing to promote Peace and Love for the fellow man. Kids will always be kids, and their actions will continuously become worse as the years go on. This is the real evolution, not the evolution the scientists infer. Great write.

Roger,
Mice write. These kids are just wanna be's. No idea of the ideals that were spawned during this time of peace and free love.

I loved this! Brings back memories--unfortunately I was one of those kids that rode the shirttails of the true 60s hippies. I was merely wearing a trainer bra when bra's were being burned!

Roger,
ah my favorite era I loved those days of beads, flowers, peace, love, and more love
tie dye, music,happiness,endless endless
searches for freedom in all things.."They were bred and born
Too late to groove the real deal
But feel no shame ripping it off "
and oh the music.... I loved this stanza you penned the most but the whole far frickin thins is so groovey...
Sorry Roger but I couldn't resist..
Excellent piece...
I enjoyed made my day.
