today is a conflicting day for me ... one of pain and joy
it is Christmas eve ... the day we know as the coming of Christ
it is also the day my father died ... a day of mourning for me
for every joy there is an intermingling of sadness

i mourn all the moments lost of knowing who this man really was
for the chance of sharing his life ... knowing the love of a daughter
the memories of a man who could have shared his experiences with me
for every joy there is an intermingling of sadness

of the pride neither could put aside to know the other ... all now lost
a day of reflecting what could have been and wasn't
realizing how three simple words could have changed things
for every joy there is an intermingling of sadness

could i have changed things ... could he have changed things
was it both of us that were needed to change things
whichever was needed these words now are spoken ... i love you dad
for every joy there is an intermingling of sadness

Oh how I can understand this! I list my mother on the day before Christmas in 1977. Sometimes Christmas is more meaningful when we let a deep "I love you" drip from our tears before letting joy take the rest of the day.

Such meaningful sentiments Mary Etta; I am sure many can relate. My mom chose to leave this world early of her own accord; I wonder how different things might have been as well. Still, I am sure your dad hears you, as my mom hear me too. Love, peace, and best wishes,
