Written for a young lady who preferred blue ink to green because she didn't like green.

I can’t believe you don't like green!
Do you know what that can mean?

You can never sing I Like Being Green,
You can never kiss a frog;
You can't sip Limeade in the shade,
Or sit on a moss-covered log;
You can never enjoy St. Patrick's Day
As the leprechauns all do;
And you can never relax with Green Is My Valley
when the color you like is blue.

You can't sing Greensleaves with Sinatra
When you hear him croon,
And you cannot root for the Green Bay Packers
Sunday afternoon;
You can never enjoy a Christmas tree
Or a home with a mountain view,
And you can never live in Greenwich
When the color you like is blue.

You cannot drive through traffic lights
When traffic lights are green;
And you'll never walk by the Greenland Sea
Where the air is pure and clean;
You can never be a Green Beret,
Or a greenhorn, fresh and new,
And you can never eat green vegetables
When the color you like is blue.

There's other colors you could choose
To brighten up your day.
The golden hues of the autumn leaves,
The glow of a sunlit way;
But blue is as deep as the universe,
Where a star is but a spark;
And, while the day is warm and bright,
The night is cold and dark.

So catch the tint of life on the wing
As it soars through a cloudless sky,
'Cause blue is the shade of the mood you're in
When the lonely nights crawl by;
You'll never enjoy the sway of the pines
Or the joy of the morning dew,
And you'll never feel the flush of spring
When the color you like is blue.
