Read this to the tune of PT-109 by Johnny Horton. I hope he forgives me for messing up his song, which btw is one of my favorites.

This Mighty Strong Girl

by Barbara Lynn Terry

In '63 they said to me

the lonely girl you think you are

you cannot be in our society

So in the car they made me go

on a trip that seemed so slow

to the cavern that ran so deep

But as I looked I did weep

as my past was taken

and my future unsure.

Smoke and fire upon their face

they moved so fast I lost the pace

the heathen bigotry of the old.

Yes they thought they had the best of a mighty strong girl

Off the island of old Sparta they took

me in this cavern dark

but as we went I made my mark

As they ordered me to change my dress

For the itchy pants my legs caressed

and the baggy shirt fell to my knees.

Smoke and fire upon their face

They moved so fast I lost the pace

the heathen bigotry of the old.

Yes they thought they had the best of a mighty strong girl.

The doctor turned the tables on, the bigots old.

He rescued me from the cavern deep

and told me just to be.

He said never let people tell you

whom you are, just go out and do

the best that you can.

Smoke and fire upon their face,

they moved so fast I lost the pace

the heathen bigotry of the old.

Yes they didn't get the best, of this mighty strong girl.

I am so glad times are changing
but then again the times are the same
maybe it is the few of us who are changing
the perceptions of the world

You will always be accepted for the beautiful
strong woman you are...and always have been...

For everything I have ever read of yours, Barbie, this has got to be the best! Your life story told in the abridgement of a poem for those of us who know you and your ongoing struggles...you're bold, strong and brave, the reason you will see 2011 ring in and take part in the pride of just being you. Happy New Year, Barbie!

Love,
Sage
