Kay is fourteen
and just told me she's pregnant
I'm not her mother
or brother
I'm too old to be her friend
and too busy to care
I'm running a yard sale for the neighbor next door
whose son Jimmy got a button stuck up his nose
and my neighbor,
his mom
had to take him to the ER
earlier today

The yard sale must go on
and the button must get extracted
I kinda wish it wasn't Saturday morning
and that Kay didn't have to grow up

Kay is fourteen
and Jimmy's her brother
Kay is fourteen and decidedly pregnant
She stands among the yard sale junk
wistfully eying her childhood...
the ones she priced herself last night
fifty cents for this,
two dollars for that

I don't want give it all away
I don't really want to

Kay hopes no one buys her things
takes notice
or cares
because nothing here
that's hers
is really for sale.
