Everybody Can't Go

 Everybody Can't Go

by

Jonathan Pitts

This is a tale about two good friends

They vowed that they'd stay, close to the end

One friend is wise, whom God has called out

One is a fool, who runs all about

The conversation real and based on what's true

Everybody can't go on the road that's for you

The Wise

My friend oh my friend, I believe I believe

The Lord has blessed and I should receive

I've worked and I've saved, I've sacrificed

To enjoy my days and have a good life

Maybe some travel, maybe a flight

I'm well prepared, perhaps for a wife

It's been hard to stay pure, temptation abounds

But I've decided for sure, to let God surround

My every step so now things look good

Since most everyday I did what I should

I prayed and I prayed, faithful I was

I stayed and I stayed in worship because

I knew by His word that I could retain

All of His blessings by calling His name

My friend oh my friend come join me right now

The blessings are great and I'll show you how

You can change your whole life by leaning on Him

Now walk with me friend, on this path you will win

The Foolish

Of what do you speak oh great friend of mine

Why sacrifice? You're just wasting time

Come down my way, it's fun, you will see

We can pray later, come and join me

Why save and prepare, that's stupid my friend

Enjoy your life, spend till the end

Why would you wait, when you can have all of this

Women just love you – they'll do what you wish

Lean over here, relax just a bit

Not a thing to regret, don't fall to your wit

You think way too much saying "Do this and do that"

You should come live! Come down this path.

The Wise

I don't know friend, my Word tells a tale

Of revels and fools, who ran and then fell

Perhaps you should stop, pause and come think

You don't see further? Tomorrow you'll sink

You'll fall in a ditch, a snare and a hole

Your life will not prosper, you'll be eaten whole

Your lack of discipline will kill you for sure

Your lack of restraint will make you impure

You're caught in a trap and I will not fall

I'll stay with God, on Him I will call

The Foolish

There you go preaching again and again

There is no difference between living and sin

Aren't we all sinners, fallen and such?

We're living by grace, so I'm given much

You are the fool to think that restraint

Will benefit you. A saint? No you ain't

I remember back, yes you and just me

We use to live, live life so free

So why are you acting like things have changed?

You're the same person, maybe deranged.

Get it together, stop being stale

Live just a little, come on now, exhale

The Wise

My friend, yes my friend, perhaps we won't see

Eye to eye on this issue, perhaps it is me

See I have grown and moved on in life

Since you have not, there will only be strife

My path is down this way, on with my Lord

Your path is another, the way I can't afford

My life is too dear to make such mistakes

I wish you the best giving all that it takes

The Final Message

This is so real, on so many fronts

People divided by needs versus wants

Some people settle, for right here and now

While other wait patiently for God to show how

Some take on life without restraint

Giving their gifts to whom they acquaint

Others are wise, they pray and they pause

Considering paths and seeking the cause

Each person's path is different for sure

But blind are all those who live life impure

Our choices our choices determine the end

Our steps and our strides determine who win

Some will give over, their lives unto God

Others will leave Him with a false nod

Some will fake and will front as if they are blessed

When in all actuality their lives are a mess

God makes the choice of who will ascend

To new levels high, to new places He'll send

There are so many blessings, to those who give up

Their lives for a cross, He'll raise you up

The good paths are many, this you should know

But the truth of the matter . . .

                                                                Everybody Can't Go
