A song of World War One:

NEVER COMING BACK,

song lyrics by Joel Sattler

This is the end of it
waiting for morn to come
never coming back
out on the battlefield
with one hand on the gun
never coming back
none of us wants to be here
but what is done is done
never coming back
bodies in no man zone
when you die die alone
never coming back

I was all alone on the parapet
smoking my last cigarette
knowing this time it was make it or break it
hoping I was mistaken
there was a time I still had some faith
but now I am here staring into the face
no one ever made it across
and come back to pay the bet
no one has ever returned
from the undiscovered country yet

tonight there will be no sleep
only the sound of the rain
never coming back
so cold I cannot feel
what there is left of the pain
never coming back
somewhere so far back home
there wakes a pretty young girl
never coming back
she might as well be in
another world
never coming back

Yesterday all my friends
fell down in Flanders Field
charging machine guns but the
front line did not yield
tomorrow we will march again
and we try to do our worse
if the land mines and
mustard gas doesn't get us first

This is the end of it
waiting for morn to come
never coming back
out on the battlefield
with one hand on the gun
never coming back
none of us wants to be here
but what is done is done
never coming back
bodies in no man zone
when you die die alone
never coming back
