Dear Lord, I need a second more
To breathe his breath, to warm his blood,
To feel the scent of shirts he wore
And then he's yours. A second, God!

I want to know I did my best,
That I remembered every line
And every tremble in the chest
Of whom I used to claim as mine.

I want to memorize his hand,
The funny freckles on his nose
And every curl of every strand
Before he turns around and goes.

I'm so afraid to lose him, Lord!
But you have taken him before
My frozen lips could speak a word.
A second, God! A second more...
