Years ago when teaching Middle School,
I taught my students ‘twould be cool—
They’d be alive to cheer the year 2000.
“Naw,” they squawked, “that dates far away,
We can’t live to see that future day—
Won’t be alive to cheer the year 2000.
My teaching life passed quickly, years ago.
I’ll bet students thought days passed rather slow;
Sadly, some didn’t ring in the year 2000.
Twixt boys and girls now adult men and women—
If only I could swap years with them.
‘Cause my days are jogging toward an end--
But I lived to blast in the year 2000.
