Anticipating, rushing: when a jazz musician does it, their music is altered; when a listener is hip to it happening, something amusing can push forward

 1. mutual friend:
you learned our
colleague you enjoyed
jamming jazz with
was my lover --
continues to be --
erotic connection in the mind

2. Out to dinner I:
1 week later
after art exhibit featuring
gigantic womb
group dinner
I see your eyes contact my breasts,
decide you clearly want me
(anticipating amusement)
-- make lyric note of that --

At Rosario's
across the span of
several tables
dressed with special salsa
warm tortilla chips
she caught his glance
toward her
new brimmed with dense

(can't explain it)

3. nearly touching:
what connects?
like unison lines from
trumpet, soprano sax,
tenor genius
(taught you how to play),
piano hands
(touched me deep inside)
sounds in air
soul chosen
heard on anthem wavelength
not simply hear
know how/that
jazz tune us effects

"Rosewood" “Sunshowers”
homeboy Woody Shaw tunes
fill jazz public airwaves often
since they first
discussed how
trumpet player weaves
into sax lines.
Almost like a
theme song
teases into

(easy to explain)

4. Out to dinner II,
steak/potatoes joint:
You watch me work
antique toy love meter:
My score: not Sexy? not Passionate?
No. Harmless!

a muse meant
(muse wanted),
her rose-tint view:
familiar ambiguous
amuse times two

hoping     making
in haste
(in time)

Within the deliberate 'confines' of the settings
there's tremendous range of emotion and coming to terms.
Strong work, Catherine, in evocative, penetrating style.
