A short poem that symbolizes a young girl's feeling of loneliness even with lots of people and activities going on around her.

A young girl sat in her room alone,

her eyes filled with tears.

No one took time to comfort her or

ask about her fears.

All she asked for was a kind word,

maybe a loving hug or two.

But the response was always the same,

"There's places to go and things to do."

Life was good to her family and soon,

the old was replaced with new.

And, it seemed now there were even

more places to go and things to do.

Then she married with a husband

and some little ones, too.

Her hopes were that now things would be different,

but in her heart she knew.

Too many days and years had passed,

with no hope for change in view.

So she resigned herself to find

her own places to go and things to do.

But the day came when they grew old

as everyone knows we do.

They had many memories to share,

but no one left to tell them to.

They may hear from her on Thanksgiving

and yes, even Christmas too.

But they can't recapture what was lost

with too many places to go and things to do.
