A SOUL AT PEACE, music by CHOPIN, song lyrics by Joel Sattler

Based on Frederic Chopin’s Etude No. 3, Op. 10 in E Major

How blesséd to be

a soul at peace

someday I may

if wonders ever cease

until that day

I must wait

until the road is clear and straight

and there’s a light

out of the night

Happy to be

a soul at peace

when sky shall part

then I shall find release

until that day

waves will break upon the shore

and as I hear the oceans roar

and storms and wind and tempest take my heart

and when the rain

fills my eyes again

I’ll endure the pain

and contemplate

I am just a traveler

upon an infinite long highway

looking up to read the message

written in the endless skyway

when the zephyr comes down from

the mountain in a rush of thunder

and I see the valkyries

go riding and I’m filled with wonder

I’ll stand in the rain

and though I am afraid

I’ll raise my fist up to heaven laughing as the gale is lashing

the clouds will swarm around me while the flood

will burst apart the dam that’s building up inside me

and as the earth does seem to quake

I’ll not bend or break

I will face their jealous wrath

even if it seems to me that I will be torn up in half

With the thunder crashing

and the lightning flashing

I shall not give in to fate

and I shall not give in to hate

I am here a man who will not give up my soul to Satan

even if I have to stand within a hell that is of my own making

I will defy the demons and the lies that are repeated

I shall never be defeated

When at last the storm is over

and the front has passed behind me

and the sun begins to rising

I’ll remember what I find here

why I’m put up on the earth and

I will learn what I am not

if God has not forgotten not forgot

at last I’ll be

a soul at peace

and when I pray

then I shall be complete

and on that day

I’ll be what I could have been

the man that I have should have been

and by that time I will have tamed the beast

inside my heart

tore my life apart

and then we shall see

if I can be

a soul at peace

a soul at peace

a soul at

My version is based on a recording by Lang Lang:

Connie: thank you for your comments on the Chopin project.

The poem describes the transition
from being a tormented soul to being "a soul at peace".

Tremendous writing, Joel. I see a few weak spots that you can improve on: "out of the night" "infinite long" "does seem" "torn up in half"
I believe you can make these phrases more professional, smoother.
Other than these observations, I have to say I see no connection between shaking your fist at heaven and being a soul at peace. One who shakes his fist at heaven (God) will not have peace. Am I obtuse; is there an explanation I just don't get?
Sincerely, Connie
