Wishful Thinking

Today is the anniversary of the day I was born
A special one this year.   A double nickel and
thirty years; it would be my time to go.
And go I would on this fateful day were it not
for so many recession woes.

Today is the day I would say good-bye to
all my colleagues and friends.
My desk would be clear, but that would be strange.
For I fear, I've never seen the top of it yet.

Paper piled a mile high, climbing ever upward to the sky.
But today was special.  It was when I was going to kiss all of
 my paperwork good-bye.

But the timing is bad, yes it's all wrong, for me
to sing my last swan song.  So I'll sit at my desk,
And appreciate what I've got.  But one day, one
year, I'm going to see the top!

Hi Mary. I think you'll find when all is said and done
that you'll be too busy (doing what you really want to do)
to miss the old desk top. -gene (the one in jersey)

Oh Mary -- Happy happy birthday! I am so bad about remembering birthdays -- too much in my head lately - that's my excuse for this time. Hope it was a happy one! I think all is right -- enjoy what you do have -- don't regret what you cannot do -- it will all come in due time. Susan

I hope so for you, Mary. Living off Social Security is extremely hard right now. These wars are really knocking finances back.
