Looking into the deep, mysterious eyes of the elderly, these thoughts came to mind.

What’s behind those mysterious eyes
Concentrated deep and blue?
Darker than the clearest skies
Yet lacking luster and hue.

You sit humbly without a doubt
Seriously quiet and amused.
You wouldn’t mind if I’d shout
Perhaps you’d be a bit confused.

I wonder where those eyes have been.
What have they seen before?
Did you walk self-righteously before men
Or harness integrity in every chore?

One day you may speak out,
Or choose to remain subdued.
This home does without a doubt
Accommodate your gentle mood.

My eyes have grown dim with grief;
my whole frame is but a shadow.  Job 17:7

Truth comes through this poem MYSTERY EYES, Frances. I lead a ministry to the elderly in a couple nursing homes, and what you have to say in this poem reminds us, that people are people no matter their age!
May this poem be used as gentle goad in our Master's hand, to soften all of our hearts.

Wonderful poem, Frances. I have always enjoyed speaking with the elderly and have found that if you sit still and listen to them, you will hear profound words of truth. Behind those eyes are a history of many years worth of happiness, pain, sorrow and tender moments. I loved this poem! Joy L. Hale

Old people's eyes have deep stories behind them, years of pain and joy, hope and sadness. Eyes that have found the Savior are filled with hope and peace.

Great work Frances! It is true:The eyes are the windows to the soul, and you've expressed that fact beautifully.
Continued success/
